Kelly/Scott

Education.....

Lisa Kelly & JB Scott aren’t just performers but educators as well. Lisa Kelly holds a B.M. degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Florida (UNF), where she studied with Bunky Green, Jack Petersen and Bill Prince. She teaches music theory at LaVilla Middle SOTA, teaches voice privately and at jazz camps, and is a frequent guest artist/clinician. Kelly was the IAJE/UNF chapter founding president and the international student representative at the annual IAJE Conference, and is a member of IAJE. She has won numerous Down Beat Magazine student music awards and was the vocalist with the 2000/IAJE Sisters in Jazz Combo. JB Scott holds a B.M. degree in Jazz Studies from UNF and a M.S. degree in Music Ed. from Florida International University (FIU). He is an Assoc. Professor in Jazz Studies at UNF, teaching jazz ensemble, applied trumpet, and jazz related courses, and is a YAMAHA artist/clinician. Scott is a member of the FBA, MENC and is a state officer with IAJE. Scott is the director of the annual UNF Koger Jazz Festival which brings 100’s of middle to high school students on the college campus for clinics and adjudicated performances. Kelly and Scott are popular guest artist/clinicians and often serve as judges and adjudicators critiquing solo to jazz ensembles. Believing strongly in perpetuating the art form of jazz music through future generations, they regularly conduct educational vocal/trumpet clinics, and rehearse and perform with big bands from music programs for elementary, secondary, and college level students. Their fun, informative, and interacting “Jazz For Kids” concerts have reached thousands of children and have been included in the community outreach programs of several major jazz festivals.
